Sustaining Moodle Usage at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology

The Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) was considered as one of the early adopters (one of the seven countries worldwide; and only one in the Philippines) of MOODLE since its release in August 2002. Moodle was then customized in MSU-IIT by its Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT) to what we commonly call the MSU-IIT Online Learning Environment (MOLÉ) which was eventually launched in the last quarter of 2002. Thereafter, four enthusiastic faculty members from the computing disciplines started to conduct workshops and training on the use of MOODLE for twenty faculty members from different disciplines of the graduate and undergraduate programs. The training team for MOLE expanded, thus, a Center for eLearning (commonly called MICeL) was established. Utilizing the Moodle framework, CICT maintains and carry out continuous updating of MOLE to its latest version. The use of MOLÉ is being utilized by faculty members of the seven colleges to augment classroom instructions on a voluntary basis when it was implemented during its early stage. Nowadays, and during the pandemic, MOLE - utilizing MOODLE as the framework - is mandated for use in all academic disciplines on the conduct of online classes at MSU-IIT. MICeL, being its training facility for eLearning primarily holds regular skills building sessions for academics to sustain MOODLE.
